Trusting God in Murky Situations

Keep trusting God even when it's dark.

If you are a type A personality like myself, then you love to be in charge. You take solace in being able to plan and execute everything according to that plan. However, life doesn’t always go according to plan. A lot of times, you can’t see your way clear. You will then discover that trusting God is your only option. As we begin this New Year and New Decade, what is Jesus telling you? Where is He leading you? What does He want you to do in this season? Trust Him and walk by faith!

Follow Jesus Christ – Even When It’s Murky

My life is all about walking by faith. But, it was not always this way. Back in 2012, I was completing my doctoral degree in upstate New York, USA. It was at this time that I began to seek God’s will for my life.

I remember that I was in a deep praise and worship session in my apartment one night. I also had Hillsong’s Oceans  playing in the background. Here are the lyrics to the bridge:

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders

Let me walk upon the waters

Wherever You would call me

Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander

And my faith will be made stronger

In the presence of my Saviour.”

The Lord asked me if I knew what I was singing to Him. I replied that I did and I agreed that I would follow Jesus wherever He led me. Although I didn’t know it at the time, I entered into a covenant with Jesus Christ that night.

Since then, the Lord has led me into a variety of situations. Were they always pleasant? No. Did I feel anguish and despair many times? Yes. But, Jesus is always there for me and He’s always in control. He’s never left me and He’s my constant Comforter, Guide, Friend, and Provider. Jesus Christ is my All-in-all. And He will do the same for you – if you allow Him.

The Covenant Calls for Sacrifice

The Lord has made many promises to me. Some of them are yet to be fulfilled and I don’t see how they’ll come about. But I will keep trusting God that He is forever faithful and He will cause His words concerning my life to be accomplished.1

As I was writing this blog, the Lord told me to mention Abraham. God promised Abraham that his descendants would be uncountable – even when he and his wife Sarah were old and barren. The promise of God manifested in the birth of Isaac when Abraham was 100 years old. 2

Abraham and Sarah had waited for so many years before Isaac was finally born. Then God makes a request that Abraham sacrifice Isaac unto Him. What? How would that make any sense? How could Abraham and Sarah parent a nation with no son? But, Abraham was obedient and he was prepared to follow through. Then, when God saw that Abraham was going to make the ultimate sacrifice, He stopped him. God knew that Abraham’s heart was pure towards Him, as he would withhold nothing from God. 3

We all want the covenant relationship, but we must be prepared to sacrifice as well. Giving up our plans and dreams is painful – I know that from experience. But, the promises of God’s covenant far outweighs whatever we have in mind for ourselves. So, you must be fully prepared to make whatever sacrifice God requires of you in this divine covenant.

God-Sized Missions

Keep trusting God to accomplish the God-sized missions through you.

In this season, God will call you to accomplish monumental missions. They are going to be so big, that if you consider them from your capacity, you’ll be scared. But, that’s how you know it’s a God-mission: it’s God-sized! It’s scary in its vastness, but nonetheless, you feel energized to run after it!

I want you to know something else. You will not be able to use your current knowledge, finances, and other resources to accomplish this God-mission. You will feel overwhelmed, but that’s when I want you to press deeper into Him. That’s when you need to spend more time in Jesus’ presence to receive His strength, His peace, His wisdom, and His guidance.

So, please don’t be frightened. Silence all the negative voices from the devil and his agents telling you that it’s impossible. Silence your own fears with the Word of God, prayer, and fasting. Keep trusting God. Stay connected to Jesus Christ, your source.

Being Fearless in Pursuing and Completing Each Mission

What did God tell Joshua at the banks of Jordan, just before Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land? Let’s recall:

“There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them.

Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.”

Joshua 1: 5-8, NKJV.

Therefore, you need to be fearless and pursue each mission with a single-minded focus and intensity.

You may be trusting God, but you’re not seeing the resources manifesting as yet. Don’t worry, God’s got you and everything you’ll need. The Holy Spirit dropped this revelation while I was writing this article:

When you commit, Jesus will provide. The ram in the thicket only showed up once Abraham was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice.4 Jehovah-jireh shows up when you take the ultimate step to show that you’re fully committed to the mission. So, don’t worry. Take that step and watch God show up and manifest powerfully. When it’s over, even you won’t be able to comprehend how it all happened! Hallelujah!

Trusting God in All Situations

I want you to keep trusting God regardless of what the situation looks like. Don’t worry about it! Focus on abiding in Jesus’ presence so you will get the comfort, peace, and guidance that you’ll need in this season.

I’m going to leave you with this scripture from Genesis 13:17. The Lord gave it to me a few days ago as confirmation and I want to share it with you as well:

“Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width,

For I give it to you.”

Genesis 13:17, NKJV.

May Jesus’ blessings, peace, and wisdom be upon us all,
Sophia.
