What Jesus Has for You is Yours Alone!

We may sometimes worry that God’s promises for us will go to someone else. After all that’s how the world works: if you snooze, you lose! However I believe that the promises of Christ for each of us will not pass us by – as long as we remain in His presence. My dearly departed mother would often encourage me by saying the Jamaican proverb: “Wha a fi yuh, a fi yuh!” The English translation is: “What is for you will always be yours.” Every time she said it, I would feel a sense of calm that I was not forgotten. I knew that my own (whatever it was) would still get to me. So, you just need to believe that what Jesus has for you is yours alone.

David’s Royal Selection

1 Samuel 16:1-13 describes how the Prophet Samuel anointed David to be Israel’s next king. Saul was the current king, but he constantly disobeyed God, so God decided to remove him as king. The Lord sent the Prophet Samuel to the home of Jesse the Bethlehemite to select one of Jesse’s sons to ascend to the throne of Israel. The Bible tells us that three of David’s eldest brothers, Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah were brought to Samuel. If Samuel was not truly in tune with God, he would have selected Eliab to be king, because he looked the part. However God told Samuel that He had rejected Eliab because of the state of his heart. In fact none of the seven sons of Jesse passed the inspection for the royal blessing. However there was an eighth, forgotten son that Samuel had yet to see: David.

Where was David during this whole “select-a-king” process? Was he outside, sulking that he was not called in to be presented to the great Prophet Samuel for consideration? No, he was far away tending the sheep in his usual thorough and protective manner.1 David excelled at the level he was at: tending the sheep, a dirty and lonely job, but he was faithfully doing his job.

God’s Plans Will Always Manifest

What happened? Was David passed over? Did the crown of Israel pass him by? Was one of his “better” older brothers selected instead? No! The crown came looking for David, the anointing of kingship came for David alone. The vessel of that anointing, the Prophet Samuel, did not sit down until David was brought to him. That was a mark great honor: for your elders to wait on your presence! Samuel did not leave until the kingly anointing was laid upon God’s elect: David!

And Samuel said to Jesse, “Are all the young men here?” Then he said, “There remains yet the youngest, and there he is, keeping the sheep.”And Samuel said to Jesse, “Send and bring him. For we will not sit down till he comes here.”

So he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, with bright eyes, and good-looking. And the Lord said, “Arise, anoint him; for this is the one!”

Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

What’s Your Position?

Let’s examine the names of David’s three eldest brothers. Eliab means “God is my Father”, Abinadab means “The Father is generous”, while Shammah means “astonishment”. While it is good for us to have a connection to our heavenly Father and to be grateful for His blessings, that is not enough. We must become like David: “beloved”. Let’s work to become close to the Jesus’ own heart. We must seek to know Christ and to take on His divine characteristics as our own.

You may feel like you are not special, that you’re at the back of the pack, the runt of the litter… like David. I encourage you to adopt David’s spirit of increasing faithfulness, peace and joy at your current level. Use the Name and the Blood of Jesus to squash every attempt of the devil to make you angry, jealous, bitter and desolate. Reject all those negative thoughts and stand firmly on the Word of God.2 Know that God has great and good plans for your life. Do not be swayed and dismayed by your current situation. Why? Jesus specializes in overnight, instantaneous mega-transformations because He is God and there is no other like Him! Hallelujah!

Encourage Yourself in the Lord

My brothers and sisters, I urge us to be encouraged in Christ. Even if you have no one around you to believe in you, or who understands you, encourage yourself. How? Well, I’m a practical person. You have a mirror in your house right? Go to that mirror. Stand and look at yourself in that mirror. Banish all negative thoughts about yourself in the Name of Jesus! Stand there and declare to that person in the mirror:

“I am fearfully and wonderfully made in Christ Jesus. I am valuable, and I am a precious jewel in God’s eyes. My past experiences and mistakes do not define me. I am more than a conqueror in Christ Jesus! These situations do not define me! No! I am royalty, I am unique, I am special! Greatness is my portion!

I will not be defeated by my current circumstances in Jesus’ name! I will overcome! Victory is my name! I will not be distracted by thoughts that others are better than me and will get what is meant for me. No! It will never happen! I am unique in Christ. Jesus loves me and all that He has for me, I will receive! I refuse to move out of my divinely appointed place! I will remain in position, in perfect love and peace.

By faith, I receive ALL that Jesus Christ has for me! ALL of the promises of God concerning me, [state your full name] and my life must come into existence in Jesus’ name! Amen!”

What Jesus Has for You, is Yours Alone!

Now smile at yourself. If you feel a laugh coming on, let it come out! Laugh honey! Laugh! Your crown will find you! You only need to remain in the presence of Jesus Christ in perfect faith, love and peace. What Jesus has for you, is yours alone. I pray that even more blessings will locate you and your loved ones in Jesus’ name! Amen!

Blessings, peace and wisdom upon you,

Sophia.
