An Air of Expectation

I always feel optimistic at the start of a new month. It is an indication of a new beginning, and it is often accompanied by an air of expectation. Before, my focus would only be on accomplishing my set goals for the month. However as I spend more time with Jesus and I hear more from Him, my focus has changed. I now look forward to deeper communion with Him and to learn His wisdom. The start of each month brings an expectancy of the new things that Christ will bring forth in all areas of my life.

Are You the One?

I am currently in a frame of mind where I’m asking certain questions of God. I would just love to know the when, what and where, but most importantly the question of “Who?” Last week, we talked about the set time of God. When my mother was alive, she would often say to me: “Sophia, nothing happens before its time.” While we are waiting on His set time, we can begin to fuss about other details. We can’t wait to get to the “next” and so we try to press into Jesus with all our questions. At times we worry about things that will never happen. We waste valuable time devising scenarios and our responses in each case. However we just need to cast all our cares1 on Jesus, just let go. Just simply stop thinking about the when, what, where and who. We need to be here, right now, working on what Jesus called us to do, as we become the one, the vessel of honour in His house.2

The Set Time of God

I was driving home from church last night when I was forced to make a detour, which took me through some unfamiliar streets. A driver ahead of me was very hesitant, and was taking some time to navigate the route. I was behind the person and I was annoyed as I wondered what was leading to so much hesitancy on their part. Eventually, I was able to safely get ahead of this person. As I drove along, I kept repeating in my mind: “There is no ideal time; there is no ideal set of circumstances! You just have to move!” Then I heard the Holy Spirit tell me that there was a difference between the ideal time and the set time of God. You see the set time of God, is never the ideal time in our eyes. I was ecstatic! Another article topic! Hallelujah to Jesus!

Don’t Look Back, Look Forward!

I had a hearty discussion this week with some persons who were insisting that the old practices and faith walks in Christendom were far better than now. These persons indicated that now they don’t see or hear of persons walking by faith and how God came through for them. I was perplexed. While there were truly people and acts of great faith back then, these individuals seemed to ignore the provisions and the work that Jesus is doing right now. How often do we look back so longingly on what Jesus did, while ignoring what He’s doing right now? How is He moving in this season? What does He want us to do right now to advance the mandate of His Kingdom in the earth? How can we ever press towards higher heights in Christ if our entire being is oriented towards what’s behind us? Don’t look back, look forward!

Being Obedient to Jesus Christ

All throughout this week I was asking God: “What should this week’s blog article be about? Won’t you tell me Jesus?” I was getting concerned as the week was quickly ending and I still had not clearly heard from Him about what I should write and post as a video on my YouTube channel. However Jesus came through with this message that I’m about to share with you. We often say that we want to walk in the perfect will of God for our lives. However do we really know what that means? Are we ready to surrender all our lives to Him? Are we ready to be blindly obedient to Jesus Christ?

Rejecting the Counterfeit

While I was working on a number of tasks yesterday, the Holy Spirit told me that we must detect and reject every counterfeit. These counterfeits can occur in every area of our lives: our personal/social life, our careers, our businesses, and our spiritual life. However we must be attentive to the voice of the Holy Spirit warning us about these counterfeits. He will also direct our attention to the proverbial red flags. As children of God, we must ensure that we are able to detect and reject all counterfeits.

Stay with the Herd!

I often hear people say that they don’t want to come to church because they can praise God at home. In reality, if you stay home, you will be distracted by chores and other activities, so you won’t worship God. According to Jesus,  where a few persons are gathered to worship Him, He’s in their midst to bless them and answer their prayers.1 In Hebrews 10:25 we are told to not forsake corporate worship. Yes, once we have accepted Jesus Christ into our hearts, we become the temple of the Lord.2 However this doesn’t mean that we should isolate ourselves. When we meet in church, we encourage each other in our respective walks with Christ. We lift our spirits when we meet in corporate worship.3 Continue reading “Stay with the Herd!”

Are You Ready for the Double Portion Mantle?

Last week, as I sat in church waiting for the Bible Study to begin, the Spirit of God led me to 2 Kings 2. This is the story of the Prophet Elijah’s ascent into heaven by a whirlwind. It also shows the determination of his spiritual armour-bearer Elisha to follow him all the way to the ascension point. Elisha requested a double portion of Elijah’s prophetic anointing, and he received his request. I tried to read through this familiar story in the minutes before we commenced. Then I heard this question: “Are you ready for the double portion mantle?”

Brief Lessons From Elijah’s Advent

I am so amazed at the immense wisdom and purpose of Jesus! Originally, I wrote the main sections of this article on July 4, 2015. I now have this blog established as per His instructions, and He leads me back to this article to revise and post it. Imagine: one article, three years in the making! Jesus just amazes me every time! Hallelujah! Let’s begin to look at these valuable lessons from Elijah’s advent.

Activate Your Faith Walk!

I was driving along one of the main thoroughfares in my city of Kingston, when I started to focus on a taxi cab. The traffic was moderate, but the driver of this cab kept switching erratically between the two lanes. He was desperate to get ahead of everyone else. He weaved crazily from one lane to the next, darting dangerously in and out of the flow of traffic – all minus the use of his indicator lights! I was becoming increasingly annoyed at the antics of this driver, when suddenly the Holy Spirit dropped James 1:8 in my heart: “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” What does this have to do with our faith walk? Keep reading!
